Tips to visit Napa & Sonoma valley & do wine country tours

  • Best time to visit Napa and Sonoma Valley is August through October and March through May.
  • Spring/Summer – Wear sundress with comfortable shoes and always carry a light denim jacket as temperature varies throughout the day.
  • Fall/Winter – Sweater, leather pants, boots, scarf. Remember, layering is the key.
  • Wear flat/wedges/sneakers or comfortable shoes because a lot of wineries have standing tastings and you need to also walk in vineyards for capturing some beautiful shots.
  • Choose a fancy dress if you’re planning to visit upscale restaurants or bars in the evening.
  • Carry your camera, chargers, sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, power banks.
  • Do carry your ID if you don’t look 18+ years old.
  • Also, don’t use heavy fragrance as that can muddle with your sense of smell and you won’t be able to smell your wine during wine tasting.

    1. I honestly didn’t know where exactly Napa and Sonoma Valley were, and now I’m sad that I didn’t go during my last visit to the San Francisco area! I did check out a winery or two in Saratoga, a small town near San Jose, but it looks like there are way more options here. I can only imagine how beautiful the drive out must’ve been, and the vineyards and mountain views at Roche Winery look equally beautiful!

    1. As I’ve gotten a little older, wine tasting has, understandably, taken up a bit more space in my travel planning. I’ve been able to do it a fair bit in North America, but I’ve got to say that some of the big ones, like Napa and Sonoma, are both really high up on my list, so thanks for the reminder here!
