Beyond the itty-bitty-bikini beach scene and hip-shaking club life, Miami is also blessed with few historic neighborhoods, which are the playground of art and architecture aficionados. Coral Gables is one such historic neighborhood district famous for its tree-lined boulevards, ivy-covered mansions and historical landmarks such as the world-famous Biltmore Hotel and the Venetian Pool, both built in the 1920s. Located in the heart of the Coral Gables is the Hotel Colonnade, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel which was formerly known as The Westin Colonnade. Today it is among the most luxurious hotels in Coral Gables and one of the most glamorous jewels on the Miracle Mile.

The Entrance

As soon as I entered the hotel’s threshold, it gave me the impression of walking inside an art museum. The glimpse of the Mediterranean-revival blending up with the Modern architecture was a treat to my eyes. The spatial contrast was exhilarating as I passed its grand bifurcated staircase, ostentatious Merrick Ballroom with wishing fountain and the magnificent rotunda with 50-foot dome ceilings with high windows.

I took the elevator from the ground floor and reached the reception lobby. I was welcomed through the door to the receptionist, immediately making me feel at home. I glimpsed the decor in and around the lobby. I was amazed to see the combination of the vibrant colors with amazing light works, giving a modern touch to the ambiance and setting the positive aura around! The below pictures speak for themselves!

The Room

As soon as I got the keys to my room, I was excited to explore what Hotel Colonnade Coral Gables had to offer! As I entered inside my Ponce De Leon room, I was amazed by its elegant interiors that were chic and stylish giving a perfect vibe of the luxe hotel. The room was spacious and had a separate lounge area diagonally opposite to the sleeping area. Hardwood floors ran throughout the room giving it a classy urban look with gray and cream walls adding the perfect touch. I was also amazed to see the juxtaposed blend of colors with brilliant hues in artwork and furnishings that were soothing to eyes. Also, there was a workstation comprising of intricate bronze work, a smoked-glass top and a device-charging station. My favorite part about the room was multiple switch ports given in both tables near the bed so that I could charge my laptop, mobile, power bank and kindle at one time while just getting lazy on my bed. The bed had a comfy pillow-top mattress and four-poster pedestal bed, that faced a television. I have to admit that I slept like a baby on that bed!

I was also overwhelmed by the small gesture of the hotel when I saw a welcome note along with fresh fruits kept on the table. This personal touch creates a huge difference in differentiating luxe hotels from others. Being a caffeine addict, I was delighted to see a coffeemaker with Starbucks coffee. The room also had other modern amenities.

The restroom included modern touches, such as a marble-top vanity, designer tile walls, and creative lighting features, giving it a modern and refreshing look. The restroom was spacious and clean containing all the essential bath amenities from C.O. Bigelow. The marble bathroom’s dual showerhead also featured invigorating massaging pressure for improved circulation.

Mixology Lesson

During my stay, I also got an opportunity to attend mixology lesson featuring Hotel Colonnade’s signature cocktail experience. Our mixologist was Julio Cabrera, one of the well-renowned mixologist of Miami. He made various cocktails for us and also shared various interesting facts and information about the cocktail industry. He also explained to us the difference between bartender and mixologist, saying, “A mixologist serves drinks whereas a bartender serves people.”  I thoroughly enjoyed his session along with sipping his phenomenal hand-crafted signature cocktails!

Rooftop Yoga Class

Unlike luxury spa hotels, Hotel Colonnade believes in a healthy lifestyle and offers a complimentary rooftop yoga class to all its guests. Unfortunately, it was raining in the morning and our class was moved inside one of the conference room. Our Yoga instructor was Joanne Barrett and she was an amazing instructor. She started with few basics postures and then ended her session with stretching and cooling.

Post Yoga Mediation & Tea Tasting

We also had a post-yoga meditation and tea tasting session led by Mike Ortiz from local tea company – JoJo Tea. His session was very relaxing after yoga. He taught us few techniques of slurping tea for increasing our basal metabolic rate. He made several rounds of tea that we were able to taste and the entire experience was astonishing!

Hotel Colonnade also has a heated rooftop pool, a soothing whirlpool for relaxing muscles, a fitness center, a business center, a game room and various meeting/conference rooms. This hotel can be a beautiful venue for wedding and reception with its elegant Merrick Ballroom as well as The Colonnade Ballroom. The hotel also provides bikes to use during your stay — my personal favorite way to explore Coral Gables!

Verdict

Hotel Colonnade Coral Gables is among those luxurious hotels who knows how to provide an ultimate luxury, hospitality, and service to their customers. The hotel is in close proximity to the Miami International Airport (MIA) as well as in the vicinity of the local attractions of Coral Gables such as Miami’s trendy South Beach and other downtown attractions. If you’re looking to spend some good times away from the hustle and bustle of the Miami Beach and downtown and want to explore the rich historic district of Coral Gables, Hotel Colonnade won’t disappoint you!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Colonnade Coral Gables and would recommend to anyone who wants to explore the historic Miami’s neighborhood with a different perspective!
