Well, darling! Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’re definitely been riding the Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie wave along with us and worshiped every second of it in the expectation of the premier date.

Not that we anticipated any less from our Lacroix-loving, Gucci-wearing, pill-popping, gin-consuming,  fashion-worshiping protagonists Edina and Patsy – but this time around they are taking us on an unimaginably thrilling rollercoaster of fashion and adventures we’ll definitely need time to recover from. Here’s why:

Ab Fab features HUGE names

The movie itself is unquestionably going to be the talk of the summer (and the rest of the year most probably) with so many cameos making it onscreen. From Kate Moss, Lily Cole, Jourdan Dunn and Alexa Chung, to Stella McCartney, Joan Collins, Lara Stone and Jean Paul Gaultier (who also made a cameo in 2001’s Absolutely Fabulous) – the list of people Eddie and Patsy encounter goes on and on and we are excited.

The absurdly amazing fashion featured in the film is breath-taking

The transition of 24 years (from the beginning of the series “Absolutely Fabulous” to its new movie incarnation) was masterly overcome by the skilful Rebecca Hale, the stylist for “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie,” who, believe it or not, had only six weeks to find looks that reinvent the characters for a modern fashion audience.

The over-the-top Lacroix looks were updated for British designers like Sibling and Stella McCartney with Patsy (Joanna Lumley) and Edina (Jennifer Saunders) still managing to maintain their quirky personal styles.

Designers approached for the fabulous clothes we see in Ab Fab are everything

As Ms. Hale explained it, the movie fashion diverted from Lacroix and focused on Stella, her biggest inspiration at the moment. Since current social issues are tackled, too – they are reflected through fashion with some help from the brilliant Vivienne Westwood. For luxury, Giles Deacon was introduced as his work is very different than anything that is out there.

To channel Betty Jackson vibe that Patsy would wear a lot of, Rachel Zoe was the first designer in mind to work with; Jackson is now retired so Hale couldn’t really collaborate with her. Since Zoe was nowhere to be reached, Mulberry took over not just because of the fashion expertise but because it was very much necessary for the film to celebrate British designers. Oh, and of course Alexander McQueen. Where would our gal Patsy be without her McQueen!

Guess what? These designers aren’t the only ones featured

The new and improved Ab Fab wardrobe had Gaultier, Dior, Chanel, Lagerfeld, Givenchy, Balenciaga … and plenty other. Apparently, names, names, names are flying around! Oh well – it seems safe to say that the film will successfully revisit the eccentric glory days of the troublesome twosome and celebrate their (improved) fashion in the right manner.

New Brit designers are celebrated, too

We’ve spotted Shrimps, Ashish, Tallulah Hope, Sadie James, Vin and Omi, Amanda Wakeley, Sibling for Bubble, Yasmeen Uddin… you can’t really say who’s more fabulous among them.

The hair is still extravagant and totally fabulous

The BAFTA award-winning makeup artist Christine Cant made sure the grandiose hair is on point even 24 years later.

The champagne-loving duo Patsy and Edina were always standing out with their outrageous hairstyles, and this time around, thanks to the collaboration made with GHD, the hair is looking even more spectacular.

Cant explained her creative process was very thorough and thoughtful –  “Patsy’s hair is carefully backcombed with the GHD natural bristle radial brush before styling into her iconic up-do and securing with lots of hairsprays”. As for Edina’s look, her “bouncy curls that last from day to night are created by wrapping sections of hair around the GHD curve Classic Curl Tong and set with GHD Curl Hold Spray”.

The incredible hairstyling tools like GHD hair straighteners and GHD curve Classic Curl Tong, also the mentioned radial brush are definitely its marques Cant swears by – both onset and offset.

Our favorite Ab Fab fashion moments are simply too perfect

  1. The opening scenes of the film – Eddy and Patsy attend Giles catwalk show, dressed in Giles of course. They are looking just-so-oh while they are snuggling up on the front row with Gwendoline Christie, Lulu, Tinie Tempah and Abbey Clancy.
  2. Bubble, who doesn’t have more than a few lines in a film but is a walking satire of today social situation, gets to wear the craziest clothes of all. Her custom made Hashtag dress by designers Vin + Omi was inspired by Kim/Khloe Kardashian booty obsession.
  3. Kate Moss and the green sequin dress! The original dress was a gift from Johnny Depp on her 21st birthday and the crew made another six or seven dresses as replicas for different scenes.

Make sure you watch the premiere of Ab Fab, starting on 22nd of July in the US and let us know what fashion fab moments would you single out as your favorite!
